Army sets up largest solar project at high altitude in LeH

Project established by air force station, completed in a year, say defence officials

Jammu, Nov 27 : The army Friday said that the largest Solar Project at a high altitude in the entire Leh –Ladakh UT has been established by Air Force Station Leh.

“On the concept of “Make-in-India” of Prime Minister Narendera Modi, the project was conceptualized and executed to provide sustainable energy alternate to fossil fuel and traditional method,” defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand told.

He said that the project namely “Provision of solar Photo Voltaic Power Plant 1.5 MW at Air force Station Leh” has been completed within 12 months (Actual 09 Months of working season) well before the completion deadline i.e. 31 Mar 2021.

The defence spokesman said that it is the largest installed solar project till date out of the target of 300MW in three phase for Defence sectors and 14 MW for Leh region as set by GOI, Ministry of New and renewable energy. “This project costs 122.00 Cr. The Project has recently been inaugurated by Air Marshal V R Chaudhari Air officer Commanding in Chief, Western Air Command at Air Force Station Leh,” he said.
