Jammu, September 11
Shopkeepers and locals of the Krimchi-Mansar area of Udhampur district today staged a protest and blocked the Udhampur-Krimchi road for several hours to protest theft in over 15 shops during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
The protesters also burnt tyres and raised slogans against the police for rampant thefts in the area.
“Burglars decamped with cash, laptops and other items from at least 15 shops, including a post office, located at a distance of 7 km from Supply Morh to Mansar. This is the third incident in the area when thefts took place,” said Vivek Kumar, a local shopkeeper in the Krimchi area.
Another shopkeeper Vimlesh Kumar said, “This is unfortunate that local shops are not safe in the area. The police have given us assurance but it did not act on earlier complaints.”
A senior police official claimed that an attempt of theft was made at four-five shops. “We are verifying the facts,” the official said.
Sources said three separate FIRs were lodged by the shopkeepers in this connection.
