Authorities ‘Unethically’ Mention Positive Employee, Contact’s Name; Govt Assures Action

Srinagar, June 6 (GNS): Authorities have ordered the closure of central and divisional office Kashmir, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, after one of the employees tested positive for the novel coronavirus on June 5.

The order mentions employee’s name as well as the identity of the person with whom the employee purportedly came in contact which according to senior government functionaries is “insensitive and unethical” even as they assured action against the issuing authority.

As per the order, a copy of which lies with GNS, the employee had attended the office on June 1. Later, the employee tested positive along with a close family member on June 5. As per the order, the employee informed the details telephonically to the concerned.

“Since the (employee) has remained in contact with various employees of this organization as such the employees of central and divisional office, Kashmir, of this organization shall proceed for home quarantine for a period of 14 days with immediate effect,” reads the order.

Sources told GNS that the senior functionaries have taken exception to the mentioning of the employee’s name as well the identity of the covid-19 positive contact. “It is unethical to mention the name of any covid-19 positive person in any communication without the consent,” a senior official said and assured action in the matter. “There is a likelihood of the order being circulated on social media as such extra precautions are required to taken while issuing the order,” the senior official added.
