Srinagar, July 03 : Amid Coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on Friday postponed National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) examinations.

Union Minister for MHRD, Ramesh Pokhriyal said the step was taken in view of the safety of the students.

“Keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education we have decided to postpone JEE and NEET examinations,” Pokhriya tweeted as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Correspondent.

“JEE Main examination will be held between 1st-6th September, JEE advanced exam will be held on 27th September and NEET examination will be held on 13th September,” he said.

The announcement was made soon after the report was submitted by a panel of experts considering the ongoing situation of COVID-19 pandemic.

MHRD had earlier constituted a committee to assess the COVID-19 situation across India and had asked it to file a report whether it was feasible to conduct the entrance test.

Pertinently, twenty five lakh students including nearly nine lakh aspirants have registered themselves to appear in JEE Main while 16 lakh students have applied for NEET.
