PCB seizes 6 Mt banned polythene

JAMMU, DECEMBER 21: In a major drive against the manufacturing and sale of illegal polythene carry bags (below 50 microns), a team of Pollution Control Board seized 6 MT of banned material from the premises of M/s S.S. Industries, Shankar Colony Gangyal Jammu during an overnight raid.

As per the PCB the raid, which started on Sunday night and continued till the wee hours of Monday morning, was carried on the directions of B.M. Sharma, Member Secretary, JK
The PCB team comprising Divisional Officer, Jammu (South) A.B. Jandial; Divisional Officer Jammu (North) Arshad Nazir Malik; JEE, Chander Singh Kotwal; Field Inspector, Naveed Choudhry, and other officials, on receiving specific information team raided the unit and found illegal polythene carry bags being manufactured in the premises of M/s S.S. Industries, Shankar Colony Gangyal.
The seized material consists of illegal polythene carry bags below 50 microns, plastic granules used for manufacturing of carry bags, polythene rolls and other material.
It is pertinent to mention that the said unit had already been closed by the Board for illegal operation and manufacture of banned polythene (below 50 microns) in the year 2019, vide PCB order no. 24 SPCB of 2019 dated 15/05/2019.
The unit has also been black listed by the Board vide said order.
However, despite the unit being sealed by the District Magistrate Jammu, the unit was being operated by the unit holder clandestinely by creating a passage in the hind wall of the unit.
Chairman PCB, Suresh Chugh informed that the operation was a major success in the endeavor of the PCB against the manufacturing, sale and use of illegal polythene carry bags in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
