Srinagar, August 27: Police on Thursday detained several leaders of People’s Democratic Party in summer capital city of Srinagar during a protest demonstration against detention of political prisoners, harassment of youth and media gag in the region.
Earlier, PDP had planned to hold a peaceful protest at Srinagar on Thursday by assembling at party headquarter in Poloview Srinagar at 11 am. The meet was supposed to be attended by PDP spokesman Suhail Bukhari and PDP secretary Abdul Hamid Kosheen who had also planned to present a memorandum to the administration.
Police, however, swung into action and detained PDP leaders Rouf Bhat, Hamid Qousheen, Shanti Singh, Arif Laigroo & Mohd Amin as the leaders tried to gather for the planned protest demo.
PDP, on its official twitter handle, said, “Police stops peaceful protest of PDP leaders against the detention of political prisoners, the harassment of youth, the gag on media & rights violations. Police have now detained PDP leaders Rouf Bhat, Hamid Qousheen, Shanti Singh, Arif Laigroo & Mohammad Amin. (CNS)
