Bijbehara, Sep 18: The lack of basic infrastructure and an unsafe building are hallmarks of Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara. Both Health and Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department admitted that hospital building is unsafe for patients and medical staff, yet government takes no measures to repair or relocate the hospital.
Some health professionals told news agency KNT that after September 2014 floods, R&B Department declared this hospital building unsafe and yet they have been operating from this building.
They said though a new building is coming up but the work on that building is going on at snail’s pace. “Some repair work was done but the building is totally unsafe. The cracks in walls and ceiling are widening with each passing day and it has been declared unsafe by the R&B Department. With no alternative arrangement in place, the doctors have been forced to take care of patients from the building.
“Yes, the hospital building is unsafe for patients and doctors. A building is coming up. With no alternative arrangements in place, the hospital has to function from the same building till new building gets completed,” said a Health Official.
