Union Territory of Ladakh is celebrating its first raising day today. It was on this day last year, Ladakh became a union territory. Ladakh is celebrating the Union Territory Foundation Day today. With a theme of One year of Development, Prosperity and Empowerment the Union Territory administration has planned the first year anniversary celebrations across the region. A series of foundation or dedication of programmes are planned in Leh and Kàrgil districts.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur, will participate in these virtual events in the afternoon. In another important event at 9.30 in the morning at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra today, the Leh District Sessions Judge will administer the oath to the newly elected Councillors of LAHDC Leh. Later, the newly elected Councillors will meet at LAHDC Leh secretariat to elect the Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillor and Deputy Chairman for the 6th LAHDC Leh. BJP has majority to lead the Leh Hill Council consecutively for the second time, with 15 councillors out of 26. While Nine from Congress and two independents got elected in the polls concluded on 23rd October.
