Anantnag, Oct 17: A family from Sallar area of Pahalgam Anantnag Saturday alleged that a top official cut down ‘their’ walnut trees without any prior notice.

A woman Jameela Bano told news agency KNT that she owned walnut trees which were source of income for her.

“A couple of years back, district administration Anantnag procured this land and set up a government school, keeping these walnut trees intact. Government had promised a job for one of my family members that promise was not fulfilled,” she said.

Jameela Bano said that Naib Tehsildar visited yesterday on the spot and chopped off all walnut trees without any prior notice. She said Naib Tehsildar informed her that he is following the directions from the top.

“The fruit bearing trees were cut down without any mercy,” she said.

When contacted Naib Tehsildar Sallar Tehsil, Shakil Ahmed Pal told KNT that these walnut trees were on state land and to make ground clear for the school, these were cut down,” he said and refuted the claim that these walnut trees were owned by any woman.
